Kelin Johnson Sports News Direct – week of 4/26/10

Kelin Johnson Sports News Direct to YOU

Hey!  Glad you could be part of the inaugural season of Sports News Direct, my weekly blog where I get behind the scenes, on the field and inside the locker room! Be the first to know what Kelin’s feelin’ about this week in Sports:

First, on the basketball front… the NBA Playoffs: It was Kobe Lakers vs. Kevin Durant OKC last Sunday. Durant turned the pressure on to high against LA, to tie the series 2-2.  Kobe had 24 points and no help in the fourth quarter. But OKC was too much for them and had too much to prove. Durant finished the game with 29 points 19 rebounds. Going into Game 5 at LA is gonna be a tough one!

Cleveland star scores 37 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 121-98 win over Chicago for 3-1 series lead

Labron James had a triple double this Sunday with 37 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. And don’t forget the 42 foot buzzer beater that looked like Michael Jordan vs. Larry Bird Trick Shots for McDonalds. James is really a man among boys!

Tough times and tough talk from the Denver Nuggets after a loss that put Utah in the lead 3-1.  All-Start Carmelo Anthony had this to say about his team: “I’m trying, I’m trying to beat them. I’m trying to do everything I can in my power to beat the Jazz.“But, at the end of the day, I need some help. I’m not sitting here pointing fingers or nothing. As a unit, we’ve got to do this together. I can’t do this by myself.”  Looks like somebody is mad or crying for help. One thing I know from playing sports is you never throw your teammates under the bus to the media. All this did was prove that IT IS PROBLEMS IN THE LOCKER ROOM at Denver. Here comes the finger pointing…

Speaking of playing the blame game…D Wade for the Heat had enough this past Sunday…46 points over the Boston Celtics.

Wade scores 46 in Miami’s 101-92 win over Boston forcing Game 5

Looks like Wade needs help… help like Carmelo says… LOL…Wade went off on the Celtics…the closest player had 23 points (Rajon Rondo!).  Wade put the game into his own hands to give the Heat another chance to bounce back in the series.

From the boxing ring… it’s Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. “Sugar” Shane Mosley
No title on the line for this fight! Boxing may have lost its fire to UFC and ECW cage fighting, but there are still some great fighters left in the world in these two men. Two top contenders will be fighting at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.  Check it out on PPV Saturday May 1, 2010.

A lot of trash talking going on. Mayweather says, “Shane has talent, I have a gift. A God-given gift.”  And from Mosley: “It is going to be clear that there is an ass whooping and I am about to give it to him!”

Sugar and Money…Baby that’s a bad Combo!

So be on the lookout for my next Sports News Direct…  I’ll have an NCAA Football update…
and my take on the NFL Draft, including: the team with the best draft, the worst draft and the biggest shock of the draft! Plus, inside news out of Athens on ousted QB Zack Mettenberger and others!

Kentucky Derby hopeful Devil May Care runs through a workout at Churchill Downs on Monday

NFL Draft 2010

Posted by kelinjohnson Comments Off

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.   That old Wide World of Sports slogan is kind of how it feels to be part of the NFL draft….   I’m telling you there is nothing like the high of being drafted to the pros.  For guys like Golden Tate, the Notre Dame WR that the Seahawks selected with the 60th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, I know first-hand what he is feeling.

I’m watching the coverage and will be sharing some of what I am thinking when I begin my new SPORTS NEWS DIRECT blog and e-mail this coming week.
